Laser Hair Removal - Instructions
Pre treatment instructions
- It is recommended to shave 24 hours prior to treatment.
- No tweezing or waxing or bleaching 3 weeks prior to treatment.
- Showering is recommended before treatment to remove make-up, lotion, deodorant, ointments and false tan.
- Client must wait 4-6 weeks after natural sun exposure or use of sunbeds before treatment and no tanning during treatment at all.
- Client may use false tan but tan must be discontinued one week before treatment. Tan must be removed prior to treatment.
- Some medications contraindicate clients to a laser treatment so therapist may ask you to stop any medication or skin care products 3-5 days prior to treatment,.
- All laser clients should be at their lightest skin tone on the day of each treatment. Having even the slightest tan on the area can put you at risk of a reaction to your laser treatment.
- Please note if you attend your appointment with a tan on the treatment area, your therapist will be unable to proceed with your treatment
Intratreatment care
- The skin is cleaned and assessed prior to treatment.
- Protective eye wear will be worn by the client and therapist in the treatment room during the procedure to reduce any chance of eye damage.
- If possible, please wear white underwear.
- Your therapist will recommend the right aftercare products to use.
- Always insure your therapist of any change of medication.
Post treatment care
- Immediately after treatment, there should be redness and swelling of each hair follicle in the area treated, which may last up to 2 hours or more. The redness may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area will feel like sunburn for a few hours after treatment.
- Aloe vera a topical soothing gel will be applied following your treatment.
- Client must wear sun cream of at least spf 30 during the course of treatments on the treated area.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation.
- Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal products or treatments. Shaving may be used.
- Hair will start to shed 5 to 14 days post treatment, shave or use wash cloth to exfoliate these hairs. This is not new hair growth.
- Avoid exercise, deodorant, heat exposure 24 hours post treatment and try to wear loose clothing.
- Return to the salon or call for an appointment at the first sign of the return hair growth.
